In Greene County district court Isaiah Jerrell Roy Burt, 32, of Boone was sentenced to two concurrent two-year prison terms Jan. 4 after he changed his plea to guilty to one count of identity theft less than $1,000 and one count of unauthorized use of credit less than $1,000. He was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge on each charge; the fines and surcharges were suspended. He must pay a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge on each charge. Two counts of identity theft less than $1,000 and two counts of unauthorized use of credit less than $1,000 were dismissed. Burt must pay $279.50 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $4,038.78 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Adria Kester)
Malissa Lou Brooks, 42, of Jefferson was sentenced Jan. 10 to 30 days in jail after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of theft- fourth degree. All but two days of the jail term was suspended and she was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. Brooks was fined $315 with a $110.25 surcharge and a $125 LEI surcharge.
In a related case in magistrate court, Brooks was sentenced to two days in jail, with the jail terms consecutive. She was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge. The court found her unable to pay attorney fees, jail fees or court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)
Ethan Thomas Hamman, 23, of Moville was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- first offense. He was placed on informal probation for one year and he must complete the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation he has already undergone. He must complete a community college drinking drivers school. Hamman must pay a $1,250 civil penalty; one-half will be waived if he obtains a temporary restricted license. Brian Douglas Hunter, 57, of Scranton was fined $100 with a $35 surcharge on a charge of assault- simple, amended from assault while displaying a dangerous weapon. Court costs were $167.50. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Marlene Eleanor Anderson, 50, of Ralston was sentenced to one year in Jail after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of OWI- first offense. All but two days was suspended. The jail time is concurrent to jail time in a Carroll County case. Anderson was placed on probation with Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. She may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the jail time. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense, and she must complete a community college drinking driver school. She was fined $1,250 with a $437 surcharge; one-half will be waived if she obtains a temporary restricted license. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense, and he must complete a community college drinking driver school. Hofbauer was fined $1,250 with a $437.50 surcharge; one-half will be waived if he obtains a temporary restricted license. Kyle Michael Moore, 32, of Ames pleaded not guilty Jan. 14 to a charge of possession of marijuana. A trial date was set for March 3.
Cases were initiated in district court during the week ending Jan. 17 as follows: Jessica Jo Peterson, 36, of Ogden, burglary- third degree; and Candice Marie Ortiz, 32, of Grand Junction, driving while license barred and criminal mischief- fifth degree (three counts), and in a separate case, OWI- first offense.
